Standard lead times, rush order reality, and the questions to ask before you commit to a deadline.
The most common source of client frustration in custom apparel is timeline misalignment. Here's what standard looks like, and what to do when you need faster.
Standard production timeline: 7–10 business days from artwork approval to ready for pickup/shipping. This includes: art review (1-2 days), order setup and scheduling (1 day), production (1-2 days), quality check and packaging (1 day), plus buffer for reprints if needed.
What "artwork approval" means: The clock doesn't start until the design is finalized and you've signed off on a mockup. Not when you submit the order. Not when you pay. When you approve the final art.
Rush orders: Most shops can accommodate 3–5 business day turnarounds for straightforward orders with a rush fee (typically 15–30%). Be realistic: rushing an order means it gets prioritized ahead of other customers' work. Ask explicitly what "rush" means at your shop.
Same-day and next-day: Usually limited to very small quantities (under 12 pieces) with art that's already approved and loaded into the system. Don't count on this for events.
Common timeline mistakes: Ordering the week before an event. Not accounting for weekends in business day calculations. Submitting art that isn't approved and needs revision. Assuming a verbal "we'll try" is a commitment.
Ready to print? No minimums. Same day to three days.
